Two minute Bible break

2 min read: Strengthen your spiritual and mental health

Receiving mental health help can look like a minute of silence in God’s presence to leave aside the chaos, problems, and thoughts that are rioting in our heads. In his presence, we know that when we feel as if no one is for us or circumstances are not getting better, God is holding us in his hands. His word reminds us that we are secure.

Here are a few verses that should give us a breath of fresh air.

God fights for your mental health

At times, the reason we feel unsettled is because we listened to a voice other than God’s. A voice that spoke contrary to what the word of God says for our lives. Whether it’s words from a family member, a demanding boss, gossip from a friend, or critique from a husband, we need to remember that the only voice that matters and weighs truth is the living word of God.

Exodus 14:14 says, “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

If it’s abuse, sickness, injury, neglect or a problem that’s bigger than us, then we need to look where God has brought us out from. Know that the strongest problems can’t take us out. His word says that even the toughest issues will not stain us.

Isaiah 43:2 says, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

God renews your strength

There’s a reason why our bodies were created to rest. God knew what he was designing, and that’s why he approved of his creation by saying “it was very good.” He did not pick out certain features of ours and said ‘these are good, and these are not.’ He didn’t say work is good and rest isn’t. God knew our bodies would get tired and require rest.

That constant fuel that we need is meant to only be filled by Him. He never grows tired, so he can renew and refresh our strength in His perfection.

Isaiah 40:30-31 says, “Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

God loves you

Who do you know that has literally moved a mountain? It’s almost impossible. According to research, there are mountains that have relocated over millions of years. The word of God says that even something as large and settled as a mountain can potentially be shaken, yet the love of God is stronger than that and cannon be shaken.

Isaiah 54:10 says, “‘Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,’ says the Lord, who has compassion on you.”

When we battle with our mental health, all we need to do is rest in God’s love because absolutely nothing can separate us from His love. Our minds may try to convince us otherwise, but the truth despite our feelings is that God’s love is available everywhere we go.

Romans 8:38-39 says, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
