Can love last forever?

Can love last forever?

“I promise I’ll never leave you,” is a common phrase we’ve all heard before in romantic relationships. A person promises to love forever and never fall in love again, and in our longing to feel loved, we believe it.

Yes, we were meant to be loved and have the desire to feel wanted. After all, it makes us feel like the most special person on earth – but the problem arises when broken promises leave us with empty words.

That’s when we realize emotions change.

But love doesn’t change. Love lasts forever. Love is stronger than a temporary romance.

This love is the only love we really need. I’ll repeat it again, it’s the ONLY love we truly need. It’s the kind of love that will never cease, abuse, or disappoint. Outside of it, everything else falls short. This love fulfills our deepest needs.

The type of love I’m speaking about is God’s love.

The moment we accept the love he offers is the moment we’ll stop getting hurt when someone doesn’t meet our expectations. God is enough to satisfy our thirst.

We don’t have to believe it at first, but it’s a truth we can stand on.

Once we begin accepting God’s love for us, we will realize it’s enough, and it’s all we ever needed. That’s when we’ll also realize we are enough. Enough to stand up for ourselves, to walk away and not jump into the hands of another person.

Our worth will no longer be a game to others. Now, our worth will be in the hands of love, who is God. And God sees us as a prized possession.

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

When we begin to see ourselves the way God sees us, the people around us may let us down, but we will rest knowing circumstances don’t define God’s love for us.

In fact, not even our shortcomings make God love us any less. The Bible tells us while we were still sinners, he showed us the greatest demonstration of love.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

God’s love doesn’t tell you one thing and do another. He doesn’t cheat or lie.

God’s promises are firm and never changing. We don’t have to worry God may change his mind. God is God. While others make promises and break them, God is not a man; therefore, he’s a perfect promise keeper.

Numbers 23:19 says: “God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?”

Even when it seems like we’re around the perfect people and circumstances. It’s shaky ground to firmly rely on another human’s love.

While we all have good intentions, the Bible tells us in Romans 3:23 that we all fall short of the glory of God because we’re all sinners.

“The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?”

Jeremiah 17:9

We can promise and try to love our best, but we can’t offer love as God does. His love lasts forever because He has the potential to do so.

Psalms 145:8 says, “The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.”

The Bible tells us that even death can’t separate us from the love of God. How wonderful is that!

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 8:38-39

In conclusion, God’s love lasts forever. It’s the love that will fulfill our every need, and it’s through his love we can love others.

Prayer to receive God’s love

Lord, I’ve been searching for love in all the wrong places. I surrender my feelings, needs, and life to you. Forgive me for running away from you and into the hands of people and things that don’t satisfy me. You’re the only love I need. I invite you into my life and heart, and I surrender my body as a temple to you. I accept that I was bought at a price when you sent your only Son to die for me. Allow me to walk by faith and not be deceived by my own desires. My trust is in you because I know you don’t break promises. I accept you as my Lord and savior and trust that nothing can separate me from your love in Christ Jesus, Amen.
