This Will Get You Through The Waiting Season

The waiting season: when it feels like God isn’t moving

Powerful truths to know during your waiting season

Waiting, we can agree that no one likes to wait. Waiting is like the flavor that everyone avoids, and people choose it only because it’s the last resort and not because it’s an option. In fact, we hear so many people share advice about this season, but it’s not until we’re walking in it that we start seeking advice.

It could be waiting for a job, husband, promotion, career or ministry opportunity, family restoration, financial breakthrough, and the list goes on. As we walk in this season, I’d like to bring to our memory two important points that will guarantee we walk in peace knowing that God will bring us through.

If He did it for you, He can do it for me

It’s so easy for us to say amen when we hear testimonies of God’s goodness and provision, but when it’s our turn to get a chance to experience the glory of God in our lives, we begin walking on shaky ground, doubting God.

We doubt ourselves and the promise that God gave us. We even start questioning whether we heard correctly from God. During this vulnerable time, if we’re not careful we can even allow other people’s opinions, including family members to talk us out of believing in the promise that we’re holding. While it’s normal to get those feelings of insecurity, we shouldn’t let them govern our lives.

Let’s give ourselves permission to trust in God’s voice, even if it’s the only thing holding us together.

Perhaps we haven’t experienced provision from God in this area before, but that shouldn’t be the reason we question if God can do it or not. What we can do is live by faith through other people’s testimonies, knowing that God did it for them, so he can do it for us.

His word says that God has no favorites.

“For God does not show favoritism.” It’s not a matter of questioning if he will or not, but it’s when he shows up.

In Romans 2:11

Our waiting season is God’s working season

Here are some verses that assure us that our waiting season is God’s working season.

We like things fast, but in 2 Peter 3:9 we can see how he continues to work in the background even when we feel like he isn’t. His timing is perfect:

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9)

We usually don’t take the waiting season as a joyful time, which is why we want to get out so fast. Although, some have learned to make the most of it.

For some of us, the waiting season involves tragedy. God reminds us in the following verse to rejoice. Not in the season or trial, but in hope.

“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.”

Romans 12:12

This too shall pass

His word also reminds us that every season comes to an end in Ecclesiastes 3:1:

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”

When we feel as if our feelings are governing our thoughts, we have the authority to take them captive to make them obedient to the word of God. The longer we stand in our waiting season, the more we should practice our confidence in God.

1 John 5:14-15 says, “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.”

The following verse is an amazing reminder of God’s goodness. Waiting on God is worth it because he promises good things for his children. We can live confidently knowing that God is truly good.

“How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you.”

Psalm 31:19

When the Bible proves to us that God has been faithful in the past and we see how he continues to show up in other people’s stories, we can trust that he will intervene in ours when it’s time.

“Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.” (Joshua 21:45)

If He did it before, He can do it again

For many of us that have walked with God longer, let’s take the time to remember our previous encounters. We’ve seen God’s power open doors, make pathways, and create opportunities where humans or our own strength couldn’t. We’ve lived in his promises.

The Bible gives us numerous examples of people who had to wait. In Deuteronomy 6:12, we can see how the Israelites are told to remember what God did for them:

“be careful that you do not forget the Lord, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.”

Moses even encourages the Israelites to not stay silent, but to tell their future children that they used to be slaves and God’s powerful hand took them out. God gave them the promised land, but they had to endure years of waiting for that promise to come to pass.

While it’s so easy to stop waiting and get ahead of God, let’s remember that our waiting season is not about us. Right now, it may seem like it’s about us, but every season is used to glorify God. One day we can also share the work God is doing in our waiting season as a testimony to others.

If we begin to feel as if our patience is running out.

1 Chronicles 16:12 says, “Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced.” If he did it once, he will surely do it again!

Prayer for this waiting season

As we continue to wait for God to open the correct doors, we need to take our needs to his feet in prayer, and say what King David said in Psalm 31:14-22:

Lord, we trust in you our God. Our time is in your hands. We ask you to let your face shine on us, and let us not be put to shame during this waiting season. We trust that what you have for us is good and abundant. You are our refuge, God. Help us discover and open our eyes to what you have for us. We give you praise because you showed us the wonders of your love before, and I know you will hear our cry again.

Let’s be strong and continue to trust God because he is forever faithful.
